Ok, I can do this. I go here for breakfast every day. Theyll be ok with me. They know I would never hurt Al for no reason. What if shes here? Will she even look at me? Will she talk to me? She promised that we would always be friends. Thats why I did it. To make sure we will always be in each others lives. Maybe I should just go to the club and skip coffee today. OK, it's just coffee with my friends. Theyll be cool. Ill be cool. No problems. Get a grip Dana. If you are this screwed up over getting coffee, you will never stay strong enough for this.
At the usual table, Shane, Lilly, Bette, Robin and Alice were having coffee. Bette was trying to get Alice to talk to them. She looked miserable, like shed been up half the night, but she wouldnt say anything. When she asked where Dana was, Alice just said that she wouldnt make it to breakfast today, something about training.
Hey, Im running to the ladies room. Ill be back Alice said as she got up from the table. A few seconds later, Bette followed her.
As Bette walked into the bathroom, Alice, who was looking in the mirror, just rolled her eyes. Bette, I can pee all by myself. I dont need help here.
I know. Im just worried about you. You wont say anything, but you look like hell, Al. And you never sit here and say nothing. Youre the one who talkstoo much, but talks.
Listen Bette, I appreciate it really, I do. But Im fine. OK. No big deal. I had a rough night and didnt get too much sleep. Thanks for the looks like hell comment. I appreciate it. I have an all staff meeting today and thats just how I wanted to look.
Fine Alice. If you dont want to talk, you dont have to; just know we are all here. And Bette left the bathroom.
Alice just looked into the mirror and sighed. Shes right you know, I do look like hell. Thanks Dana. You couldnt have done this a few years earlier so I could hide it a little better with my youth. I have to tell them. They are going to find out. I was just hoping this was one of your momentary lapses in faith. You've had them a million times before. You have no faith in love or happiness. But it doesnt last this long. You always come around as soon as you realize that I am not next to you when you lie down to sleep. You've never spent the night without me. At least not when you're not on tour. Yeah, but fucking Michelle goes on tour with you now. Shes always there. You swear nothing is going on with her...but Im not so sure.
Maybe I should go talk to the girls. But they arent the girls anymore. So much has changed. I miss the old days. Bette is with Robin now. Shes nice enough, but she isnt Tina. Even for me she isnt Tina. I cant imagine what Bette thinks. I cant open up to her. When Bette lost Tina, we all did. She was our family. I cant put that in the hands of someone elses relationship. And Shane. Well Shane is Shane. She and Carmen were great together. But then Carmen made the mistake of saying forever to Shane a few months ago, and Shane just flipped. So there is some stranger at the table with us. I miss Carmen. She was good for Shane. We still get together with her. Theres still some hope for the two of them. Dana and Shane need to go see a fucking shrink together I think. Both lunatics.
She ran her fingers through her hair and went back to the table. Dana was fidgeting on the sidewalk. Shane looked up and saw her standing at the entrance. She looked like she was talking to herself. Hey Al, why is your girl outside talking to herself? And I thought she wasnt going to be here this morning, training or something?
Alice looked over and saw Dana standing there at the door. She was frozen there. Uh Aldid you hear me?
Um, yeah I did. Of course I did. She must have bailed on practice early today. As for the talking to herself thingcome on, its Dane. She does that sort of thing. Alice was trying to make light and joke. But she couldnt believe that Dana would show up there. What was she thinking?
