Alice was bent over searching through her fridge trying to find something to soak up the alcohol in her stomach. She pulled out a bottle of water and closed the fridge. Alice turned around and saw a paper bag she remembered that had bagels in it. She pulled out a wheat bagel and took a bite when she heard a light knock at her door. Alice had no clue who would be at her place now. Alice walked to the door and waited for a minute, trying to eat her bagel some more. The knock came louder.
Alice open up. Dana said.
Alice opened the door her mouth still full.
Wha p? Alice mumbled.
What? Dana asked.
Alice rolled her eyes and took a swig of water.
Whats up? Alice said again.
Can I come in? Dana asked, for some reason Dana had seemed completely sober.
Yeah come in. Wheres Tonya? Alice turned her back and took another bite of bagel, sitting onto the couch. Alice pulled her feet onto the cushions. You guys get in a fight?
Alice was way into her bagel to notice that Danas facial expression was confused, sad and a little relieved.
Want a bagel? Alice asked, watching Dana moved to a chair.
No, Alice, I dont want a bagel. Dana said quietly.
Dane, whats wrong? Alice finally saw Danas face. She put down her bagel and water.
Its over. Dana whispered.
Alice swallowed her last bit of bagel. She didnt think she heard Dana right. What?
Tonya told me she knew about us being attracted to each other. She told e to come up here, stay the night. So she could move her stuff out. She gave me back the ring and everything. Dana said playing with the ring in her hand. Alice stared at Danas hand. Her eyes were wide with shock.
Jesus, Alice say something. Dana said nervously.
Alice blinked out of her daze and cleared her throat. I dont know what to say. How do you feel about it?
Dana looked up as tears filled her eyes. Sad and guilty.
