“Yeah, Torres…but the season when her hair was short, you know, with that little flip?” Bette teased.
“Hell, yeah!” Shane held up her hand and gently ‘high-fived’ Bette’s bandaged hand.
“You know that’s right,” Tasha laughed and she started to join the ‘high-five,’ but Alice pulled her arm away.
“Oh no…nope…no high-fives for you,” Alice said shaking her head and she gave Tasha a look.
Tasha, Shane, and Bette laughed.
“I’ll take Arizona and Callie in a threesome any day, and throw in this Yang…shit, did you see those beautiful eyes…damn!” Shane said laughing.
Bette was laughing and shaking her head. “No, just Torres for me, Robbins reminds me of one of my past…you know!” Bette grimaced and laughed.
“Oh…that’s right! Nadia Karella!” Alice teased.
“Have you all gone mad? What in the world is wrong with you all?” Tina stood with her hands on her hips, her eyebrows scrunched.
They all turned and looked at the young blonde.
“No, Tina, see? It’s Grey’s Anatomy…you know, Dr. Yang?” Alice said smiling.
“Gray’s Anatomy? The textbook?” Tina asked even more confused.
“What? No…” Shane laughed.
“No, Tina, Grey…G-R-E-Y…” Alice tried to explain.
“Come here, sweetheart,” Bette said tenderly to Tina and she was laughing. Then she looked up at her friends, “She doesn’t have a TV.”
The three friends looked astonished at Tina and tried not to laugh further.
“You don’t have a television set?” Alice asked.
Bette gave Alice a look.
“Wow…okay then,” Alice smiled politely.
Later that afternoon, Bette was finally allowed to go home. She felt tired and she relaxed into Tina’s car, which Shane had taken to a car wash and had the insides thoroughly cleaned and detailed. It smelled fresh and lemony. Bette turned her head and rested it against the seat back. She gazed at Tina as she drove. Tina was catching her up on the last few days.
“…and so Shane called her, and Weezy hauled off that lumber. You’ll be happy to know she has been there every day at sunrise all the way to sunset. You’ll be amazed at how much she had gotten done…” Tina continued talking, every once in a while glancing at Bette and smiling warmly.
Bette could hear Tina’s voice, but was not able to listen. She simply watched and smiled. She loved the way Tina drove with one hand and gestured with the other while she spoke. She watched the beautiful fingers weave patterns in the air, considered the spotless manicured nails, remembered how those fingers felt inside of her, how those nails teased and tormented her skin.
“…and Mrs. Henderson’s been very good with the class while I’ve been at the hospital.
