Bette was still at their house, not knowing what to do. She wanted to talk to Tina, to comfort her, to protect her and took all the pain, but Tina was pushing her back. Bette felt like she was falling in black hole, memories from the past were crawling in to her mind. She got dressed, took Angie and headed to the only person after Tina, she could find some shelter. After the short drive, Bette parked the car in front of Kit’s house. She hesitates for a moment, but then she got out and walked to the front door.
Kit was sipping her morning coffee, looking through the newspaper, when the buzzer went off. She rose from her seat and opened the door. Kit was greeted by sad and troubled Bette. The words weren’t needed; Kit knew that something was wrong.
“Bette…what are you doing here…it something wrong with Tina? Why Angie’s with you...” Kit got panic for a moment.
“I needed to talk to someone, and you are the only person that I can confide a secret.” Bette stepped inside…she put Angie down, and the little girl immediately went into the living room and switched to the kids channel.
“Let’s go to the kitchen…you want some coffee...I just made it…” Kit said walking ahead.
“No…I’m good…” Bette said, taking a seat next to her sister. She starts to play nervously with her own fingers. Kit tries to catch her gaze, but Bette was avoiding her.
“God…Bette…don’t tell me you’re cheating on her again!” Kit said, rising for her seat, pacing the room nervously.
“No…no…Kit how could you think things like that? No…it’s just that Tina is having those nightmares, from some time, and the things are going out of control. I tried to talk to her, I wanted to help her, but she’s pushing me back…like the time when…” Bette got tears in her eyes “…when we lost the baby. And I’m so helpless; I don’t know what to do.”
“Why don’t you guys went into therapy?” Kit asked taking her seat again.
“No…no more therapy, I’m starting to feel like a lab mouse.” Bette said, and looked at Kit.
“Do you know what kind of nightmares they are?” Kit asked, purring some more coffee.
“What you mean?” Bette asked
“Is she talking in her sleep, is she tossing and turning, is she uneasy or shaking in fear…”
“What about all of this…” Bette bite her lower lip
“Oh god, Bette I’m not a psychologist, but I can tell you that Tina’s in treble.” Kit said, caressing Bette’s upper arm.
“I know that, I just don’t know what to do. You think is right to ask her about her past? Maybe something in there is causing those dreams. You know, suppress memories of childhood fears…” Bette said. Kit sighs and rose again, heading to the counter. She took note-book of her purse and rewrites something.
“This is the phone number of a friend of mine. She’s good psychologist…Don’t get me wrong, I know Tina is fine, but maybe she can help in some ways…” Kit hands her the note, and Bette took it, placing it in her pocket.
“Thanks Kit, I don’t know what I could do without you” Bette smiled and hugged her sister. Kit held her tight, caressing her back.
“Be strong, she needs you, more than ever…”Kit said and looked to the living room, hearing Angie’s sweet laugh. “Why don’t you leave my baby niece here for today, went home…make some romantic diner…you know what I mean…”Kit winked making Bette blush.
“Thanks sis, for everything…” Bette said heading to the living room. She kissed Angie’s head, and told her that she’s staying with her auntie Kit.
