Chapter 7

While Alice was at the hospital, back at the house Tina was waking up after sleeping for about 5 hours. Instinctively Tina felt for Bette in bed but instead of her lover Tina felt her daughter and everything that had happened in the last few days flashed before her eyes. She stood up and looked at the alarm clock and realized that she had been in the house for far too long and that meant that she was breaking her promise to Bette that she was going back to the hospital soon, she looked back at Angie for one last time and walked out the bedroom.  Tina was mad, she walked in to the living room and found Shane and Carmen sitting and watching TV:

     Tina- (yelling) why didn’t anybody wake me? I have to be at the hospital damn it!

     Shane- TK calm down, you needed to rest so we let you sleep, it’s ok, Alice is at the hospital and I will take you there after you have something to eat.

     Tina- I don’t care whose there, I need to go now. So you either take or I will go myself….

     Shane- Tina as soon as you eat I’ll take you to the hospital but I wont let you leave before and don’t fight on that.

     Tina- ………ok, ok, Shane, I’m sorry, I’m just so nervous, I’m so scared that I’m going to loose her (crying)that she will die, that she will leave me and Angie, I cant live without her, I…….

Shane walked to where Tina was standing and just hugged her and let her cried. After a couple of minutes Shane backed up a little and said:

     Shane- Tina she won’t leave you, she won’t leave Angie, she won’t leave any of us, but we have to stay positive, and you have to take care of yourself if you want to be able to take care of her, ok? (Tina nodded yes) ok, so come on lets get you something to eat then.

     Carmen- Shane why don’t you and Tina just sit back and relax and let me heat the food, I’ll call you when it’s done.

     Shane- ok babe thanks.

     Tina- yeah Carmen thank you for everything.

     Carmen- hey its ok, you don’t have to thank me for anything, I’m here for whatever you need, for you, for Angie and for Bette.

With those words Carmen left for the kitchen and Shane and Tina sat in the living room, Shane was telling Tina the things that have done with Angie. A couple of minutes later Carmen called Tina to eat and Shane went with her. After Tina was finished eating she went to her room and sat in the bed next to Angie, she kissed her sleeping daughter goodbye and told her that Momma B and Momma T loved her and that they will be together real soon, she then stood up, looked at the picture of her, Bette and Angie and a tear made its way down her cheek, she wiped it off and went to meet Shane who was taking her to the hospital.

Back at the hospital Alice went to the nurse’s station, she was really exited and couldn’t talk straight:

     Alice- shemovedherhandIfeltitmovecomeonyouhavetogocheckonhercheckonBette

     Nurse- Miss please calm down, I cant understands what you’re saying what’s wrong with Miss Porter? Please take it easy!

     Alice- (taking a deep breath) ok, I was holding Bette’s hand and I felt her squeezing mine, it was a faint squeeze but I’m sure I felt it, I’m not crazy I know what I felt. Please can you go check on her, please!

     Nurse- ok, now I can make out what your saying, you go back to the room and I’ll be there in a minute I just have to call the doctor to let her know what’s going on, if it happens again before I get there please just push the red button and wait for my to answer but do not let go of her hand and keep talking to her.

     Alice- ok I will do that, thanks and please hurry up.

Alice walked back to the room and notices one of Bette’s fingers moving but instead of pushing the button the nurse told her she started yelling again, and at that same time the doors to the elevator opened and Tina and Shane heard Alice yelling and got really scared. They ran to the door of Bette’s room but Shane didn’t go in she just stood outside the door:

     Alice- NURSE, NURSE, please come quick, she’s doing it again.

     Tina- Alice what’s wrong. (Running to the room) Bette, baby.

Tina didn’t understand what was wrong with Alice, as far as she could tell and to her disappointment Bette was laying in bed exactly the same way she had left her almost 8 hours ago. She walked to Alice who was pacing back and forth in front of the room waiting for the nurse to come, and started questioning her:

     Tina- Alice why are you yelling, what’s wrong? What’s going on?

     Alice- TK, Shane, you wont believe it, I was talking to Bette about the time she cut her hands and I had to help her, remember, well as I finished I was telling her that she needed to wake up and all of a sudden I felt her squeezing my hand, I mean it was a faint squeeze as I told the nurse but I’m sure I felt it, so I went to tell the nurse and she said she was going to call the doctor and that I was to stay with Bette and not leave her side, so when I was coming in to the room I saw her moving her index finger and I started yelling and then you guys got here and….wow I’m out of breathe.

     Shane- TK, go in there and talk to her maybe she will wake up. We’ll wait here, and wait for the nurse.

     Tina-(hopefully) Ok I will see you in a bit

Tina went inside Bette’s room and took her hand in hers.

     Tina- baby can you here me, if you can please wake up, baby please wake up.

She was stroking Bette’s face with het other hand.

     Tina-Bette come on wake up, baby if you can hear me please wake up, I’m here, I love you baby. Come on babe I need you please wake up.

Alice, the nurse and the doctor walked in to the room, Shane held the door open but didn’t go inside, she just looked at her friend laying in bed, she looked so fragile, so different from the Bette porter she knows and admires, she could hear the doctor talking to Tina and Alice but the only thing she could do was look at her friend, a single tear ran down her cheek, she closed the door and sat in the floor and buried her head in her hands and for the first time in a long time she prayed to whoever would listen to please bring her friend back.

After a while Tina, the doctor, Alice and the nurse left and Tina asked Shane to keep an eye on Bette, while they where inside Bette didn’t make the slightest movement so they where going to talk about exactly what Alice felt and what would be the course of action if it was true that Bette was starting to feel and to try to move.  Shane stood up and went inside the room but stood at the closed door just looking at Bette in bed. After about 20 minutes she walked to the chair next to the bed and sat down.
