Chapter 9

It was finally Friday night and Tina and Spencer were getting ready for the concert. Spencer had chosen to wear a pair of black skinny jeans and a white beater that had CrushCrushCrush written on it in red paint. Her left her blonde hair down in curls. She wore a pair of chucks and accented it all off with a pair of florescent yellow earrings and a studded belt to match. Her mother walked in as soon as she was finished putting the belt on.

“Well, well, well. Don’t you look…interesting.”

“Mom shut up. It’s awesome.”

“I can’t even believe I bought those clothes for you.”

“Well you did, and they came in handy too.”

Tina smiled. She adjusted her simple white t-shirt and black skinny jeans and applied minimal make-up and added her favorite pair of sling-backs. Spencer looked over at her mom and shook her head.

“Mom your soooo not gonna really wear those are you?”

“What?”

Tina looked her outfit up and down trying to figure out what Spencer was talking about.

“What are you talking about Spence? I thought I looked cute.”

“Oh you do, but those shoes are going to be killing your feet by the end of the night.”

“Missy, you’ve got a thing or two to learn about your mother. I wear shoes like these all the time.”

Spencer shook her head slowly.

“Whatever, it’s your feet.”

Tina smiled. They went back up stairs and headed out for a light dinner. After dinner they were making their way to the concert. They were waiting in line.

“So mom, are you excited. Do you even like Paramour?”

“Uh, not really sure. We’ll see I suppose. It looks like it gonna be fun.”

“Mom, are you kind of worried that you might run into you know who?”

Spencer dared to ask. She knew this would hatch open a bunch of memories for her mother, but she just wanted to make sure. Tina shook her head.

“Uh uh, sweety this isn’t her kind of scene. She’s extremely serene and quiet most of the time.”

“Uh huh, well what if she’s changed?”

“Baby, Bette Porter NEVER changes.”

The honesty in Tina last statement made her sad. Her demeanor changed momentarily, but then she comfortably ran her fingers through her daughter hair. It always eased her when she did that. She smiled and decided not to dwell on the past anymore. Tonight was about Spencer. Spencer just looked at her mother knowing what was going through her head. She decided to change the subject.

“So mom are you excited about your new job?”

“Ugh, yah I am baby. It pays so much more.
