Bette loved her daughters very much, she was afraid to lose them. Bette and Jody had met 10 years ago at Yale. At first Alice and Shane didn’t like her, but soon they accepted her. Bette seemed to be in love with her, so her friends decided to accept Jody. They always had the feeling that Jody was bad news. Jody is a sculptor who studied at Yale. A year after Bette and Jody met they got married. After Bette and Jody announced that Bette was pregnant with their child, they forgot that Jody might have any bad intentions. When Katie was born, both Alice and Shane saw a different side of Bette. Bette became a mother; they didn’t see that side in Jody both they decided to let it pass. Jody couldn’t imagine the idea of herself pregnant; she told Bette that if she wanted children she would have to carry them. Their second daughter Amy is biologically Jody’s. Even though she’s Jody’s biological child, everyone else always thought that she was Bette’s child. Both their daughters had every aspect of Bette. They were truly Porters. Katie was now 7 years old and Amy 4 years old.
After 9 years of marriage Bette couldn’t take it anymore. Jody was working nonstop and barely had any time for her and her daughters. Bette was to very busy, but she always put her family first. Now the divorce is final, the custody hearing is still a week away. Bette knew there was a small chance that Jody would get custody, Jody had a great lawyer. Bette was very afraid of this. And now spends all the time she can be with her two children. “So? What have you two decided?” Bette asked her daughters. “Well, can we have lunch together and then go to a park?” Katie asked her mother. “That sounds fun, yeah why don’t you guys go play and I’ll make reservations.” Bette left the girls in their rooms and went to make reservations at a nearby restaurant. By noon they were on their way to the restaurant. The girls were on their best behavior, they loved eating out with Bette. Everybody at the restaurant knew Bette. They loved the fact that everybody knew and loved their mother. They respected and loved Bette more than Jody. It wasn’t a competition. Just Bette was always there for them, Jody was their mother just because. Bette was truly their mother, she did everything for them. After lunch they went to the park nearby. The girls went to play in the sandbox and the slides. Bette sat there and watched them; she couldn’t imagine a life without her 2 daughters. After a while Katie came up to her mother and sat next to her on the bench.
“What’s wrong sweetie?” Bette asked her oldest child. “Nothing’s wrong. Are we going to stay home today?” Katie asked her mother. “I don’t know what your mother wants to do. This was supposed to be her weekend. Why?
