Bette turned to Gen, grinning, “I’m so sorry I didn’t introduce, this is Tina Kennard, the most brilliant State Attorney and…”
The women smiled at each other, as Tina finished Bette’s sentence, “…well, I guess you could say we use to date.”

After all pleasantries and introductions were exchanged, Gen silently watched the women interact, letting her thoughts run randomly through her mind.
I have to admit, Tina was alright looking. Ok, who am I kidding, Tina was freaking gorgeous.
Gen clenched her fists under the table. There was a way this Tina person made Bette smile and laugh that made her feel annoyed.
Gen, you’ve got to get a grip of yourself, she thought, you spoke to Bette, you made a decision to let her go and just be friends, right? Gawd, what friends. How can I be just friends with someone I’m so crazy over? Damnit, Bette Porter, why do you have this hold on me.
She suddenly realized that Tina was facing her, “Would you like to join us?”
Gen looked at Tina with a slightly quizzical expression, “I’m sorry, I didn’t quite catch you.”
“She asked if you would like to join us for coffee,” Bette said, sounding mildly annoyed that Gen hadn’t been paying attention to their discussion.
“Urm, no thanks, you guys should go ahead and catch up,” Gen replied, standing up, “I have a lot of work to do. Thank you for meeting us, Miss Kennard, I’m sure I will be speaking to you again soon.” Gen shook Tina’s outstretched hand, giving it a firm shake, “I’m sure, Doctor Taylor. Bette, shall we?”
Bette walked out of the conference room, giving Gen a smile as Tina ushered her through the door with her hand lightly on her waist. Gen watched the small gestures between them and felt more and more jealous as the moment passed.
They definitely have some sort of chemistry, Gen thought to herself, maybe they would be better together. After all, they did use to date, right?
Gen pushed all her incessant thoughts aside and walked out of the conference room, determined not to think about Bette Porter as much as she could.

Bette and Tina settled down at a quaint little café a few blocks from the office, after ordering their drinks and a light lunch, Tina smiled widely at Bette, anxious to catch up.
“How are things with you,” Tina asked.
“I’m ok, as you know, we just closed this case, which is a great relief considering the time we’ve spent on it. Other than that, I’m the same.”
“Seems like something’s bothering you,” Tina said, picking up on a Bette’s slightly unenthusiastic tone, “Troubles with someone you’re seeing?
