Chapter 5

“Bette, where are we going to stay. In tents?”

“What the fuck did you just say Alice?” Shane could not believe what she just heard.

“Alice, for Gods sake. Why would you think we would be staying in tents?” Bette just shook her head at her friend.

“I don’t know. I thought maybe we would brake out our Birkenstocks and flannels and have a long weekend in the wilds of Louisiana, livin’ off the land. Roughing it. you know a woman’s weekend!”

“Alice you have fucking lost your mind. I do not do tents!” Bette was incredulous at the thought. “I will get more details and we can make plans. We were just wondering if anyone was interested in going.”

“Count me in.” Shane raises her hand.

“Me too.” Alice is just game for anything.

Bette looked at Tina who was mortified. She didn’t know what to think. Four days with Bette. They are just now in a place in their relationship that they can talk to each other and now Bette is talking about four days together with no respite from the other.

“I  ...  I don’t know. I  ...” The words barely escaped her lips.

“Oh come on Tina. Don’t be a spoil sport.” Alice was jabbing at Tina.

“Alice, stop it. If Tina wants to go, she will. Let her decide.” Shane admonishes Alice for  pushing.

Bette wants to put Tina at ease. “T, we would love for you to join us. Check your calendar and if you can get the time freed up, just let me know. We want you to know that we would love to have you there.” Bette was trying to give Tina an out if she really did not want to go.
