"

Cora let her fork drop to her plate. "Jesus", she said. "I didn’t even think of that. I guess I figured you’d already done that. That I’d missed it."

"No", Richard said. "We wanted to wait until we found you. If we could anyway. Wait that is. We knew we’d find you. We just weren’t sure if it would be in time."

Cora stood up from the table and walked to the living room window and looked out over the water of Grand Traverse Bay. Everybody respectfully stood and watched her for the few minutes of silence. "It’s really beautiful here", Cora said finally.

Tina approached Cora softly and put an arm on her shoulder. "Sweetie, if you’re not ready to deal with this we can probably wait one more day or two."

"No", Cora said resolutely. "She’s waited long enough for me. What do I have to do?"

"Not a lot really", Bette answered. "Faye actually had everything planned out very well. This little trip here kind of changed things at the last minute apparently. She had originally planned to be flown back to California but now...well now she wants to be buried here."

Cora continued to look out the window. She smiled as a small tear escaped from the corner of her left eye. "That would be nice", she sniffed.

"And then we’d also like to talk to you about your fa-"

Richard cleared his throat and shook his head. Bette took his cue in time. "-your future", she finished.

"My future?"

"Yeah", Tina said hesitantly. "Don’t be afraid. But we know a lot about you Cora. We know how you’ve been living the last few years. We want to help you."

Cora bowed her head and sobbed. Tina swept her into a hug immediately. "Shh. It’s ok, sweetie. It’ll be ok."

A tear streamed down Bette’s cheek and she rubbed the young woman’s back while Tina held her. "You must think I’m such an awful person", Cora sobbed.

"No honey. We don’t", Tina soothed. "We don’t."

"Cora, listen to me", Bette said gently. "We think you’re a strong young woman who’s been through a lot in your life. And you were just surviving. Any way you could.
