“I’ll walk you up to your office,” Bette suggested.
“Sure,” Tina replied. They entered the office building through the revolving door and walked together toward the elevator.
“Now you won’t need to check with security to find me in the future,” Tina said. “Fifth floor.”
The doors closed and Tina hit the appropriate button.
They stood on opposite sides, both with access to the identical control panel that was located on either side of the elevator car.
The doors chimed with their arrival. Bette waved her hand forward to invite Tina to lead. Tina turned right and smoothly pulled a set of keys from her purse to open the office door at the end of the short hallway.
“Corner office,” Bette noted. “You’ve got some power around here.”
“I’ll take it where I can get it,” Tina smiled, looking over her shoulder. She opened the door, stepped inside and invited Bette in.
“Great view,” Bette commented as she noted the rolling hills behind the building. “I’m surprised it hasn’t been developed yet.”
“I’m sure it’s a matter of time,” Tina said. “But for now, I’ll cherish the green space. Brown by the end of summer, as you can see.”
Tina closed the door and walked over to lean against her desk. As she passed by Bette, she let her open palm drift across Bette’s shoulders
“Thanks for lunch,” Tina said, once she was positioned against the desk.
“Anytime,” Bette replied. She took a step closer, and waited for some indication that Tina might not welcome her closer proximity. No such indication presented itself.
Bette took up the spot just to Tina’s right, leaning against the desk as well.
“Do you think you might have time for dinner this weekend?” Bette asked
Tina looked pensive.
“I think I’d like to make the time for dinner this weekend,” she finally replied.
Bette turned her head just as Tina finished speaking. She leaned over and let her lips brush over Tina’s briefly.
“Tomorrow okay?” Bette asked quietly.
“Yeah,” Tina replied.
Tina’s hand reached up to rest on the side of Bette’s face.
But their modest progress was interrupted by the sound of Tina’s desk phone ringing.
It startled both of them apart, after which Tina gathered herself and answered the phone.
“Okay, I’ll be right there,” she sighed. “It’ll take me about half an hour or so. See you soon.”
Tina hung up the phone and shrugged.
“Chaos on the set,” she explained. “I have to get things back on track.”
They stood facing each other.
“The day will be over soon and you’ll get to recharge over the weekend,” Bette assured her.
“I really appreciate having had this break from my work week,” Tina said, referencing their lunch. “It gave me something to look forward to.”
“Sounds like you might be needing a holiday soon,” Bette said. She placed her hand on Tina’s upper arm and slid it down until their fingers were entwined.
“As soon as this shoot is done, I will be taking a break,” Tina said, more in promise to herself than anything.
“When will that be?”
“We’re scheduled to wrap a week from today,” Tina replied.
