Author's Note:

Hello Everyone,

Thank you SO MUCH for the wonderful comments on the previous chapter. I also received PM's and I promise I'm working on returning comments back to each of you. However, I'd like to clear one thing up right now. I do not have stock in Kleenex as a PM accused me of! That one made me smile!

I know it's taken me a bit to post again, but I do have a good excuse. My daughter became a big soccer fan after seeing her cousins begin their season. So, because she has her mother wrapped around her finger, she got me to agree to sign her up for a little league. The league is part instructional and then after each session, they have a small game to apply what they learned. So, not only am I an instructional leader, I also volunteered to be a ref for the games! Mind you, this is the ONE sport that I haven't played, but watch on a regular basis. I'll be fitting in writing while I read "Soccer For Dummies" to brush up on what I "think" the rules should be before the games begin in a week! Mind you, this is added to being a cheerleading mascot, much to my dismay, and getting involved in the library program! I'm a softie, I know it!

I wanted to do shout-outs to everyone that took the time to leave me such emotional and personal messages on the last chapter. But I wasn't even done with them when I did a word count, which was well over 2,000! So I just want to say that EVERY comment left brought a smile and/or a tear to my eye. It's that type of support that keeps me writing when life becomes so busy and I feel like I'm borrowing time from weeks to come to get everything done!

There were a few comments that I wanted to make back to some of you. I'm touched by all that were left, but there were a few that I felt I could offer something back on other than my heartfelt thanks.

Honda90 - My heart felt sympathy goes to you and your family regarding your grandmother. At my Grandma's funeral, my brother, his wife, and myself (it took all three of us to get through it) read a poem that is next to my Grandma's picture in my house. I don't know who the author is, but I know it gives me comfort and I hope it does the same for you.

He Only Takes The Best

God saw she was getting tired
And a cure was not to be
So he put his arms around her
And whispered "Come with me"

With tear filled eyes we watched her
Suffer and fade away
Although we loved her deeply
We could not make her stay

A golden heart stopped beating
Hard working hands put to rest
God broke our hearts to prove to us
He only takes the best.

I hope you find comfort in that my friend, I believe it in my heart to be true.

annieb69 - I'm sorry to hear that you lost you mom a short time ago, but I do believe in my heart that people come back and help you. I hope you can find some peace in what I've written!

momadukes - First, thank you so much for your support. I can't remember when you wrote the comment I'm thinking of (it was recent), but I got the hunch that things were maybe not going as you would like. Hang in there Hun, you can always PM me, and if nothing else I have strong shoulders to lean on! Thank you for the encouragement in handling my past! Hopefully things are ok with you and your family, including the ones you are reconnecting with!

To those that wished me luck in repairing my friendship from so long ago, thank you from the bottom of my heart. If nothing else, I will stop having it haunt me when I apologize to her and hope she takes pity!

To those that were silent readers, but left comments on this chapter or sent me a PM, I want to say thank you! It is wonderful to hear your thoughts and they are always welcome in my story!

I hope you enjoy this chapter!

Chapter 31

Bette quickly stepped in front of Tina with the cake in her hands. She balanced the cake as Tina reached in Bette's pocket and retrieved her keys quickly, resisting the urge to caress Bette's thigh from within the pocket on such a busy day.

"Did you get the streamers from the car?" Bette asked as they walked inside.

"Check," Tina answered throwing Bette's keys on the table near the door.

"Balloons?"

"Yesterday," Tina reminded her as she walked further into the house. "I hid them in our room."

"Ice cream?" Bette asked almost hopeful to catch Tina missing an essential ingredient for a successful party due to Tina's smugness. "Did you remember the vanilla and the chocolate?"

"Did you write me three different versions of your party list that had both flavors on there?" Tina shot back. "I had the e-mailed version, the printed out e-mailed version, and the ever-popular Post-It notes stuck all over my things."

"I just want it to be perfect," Bette sat the cake down on the kitchen table. "Everyone said they were coming right?"

"Yes," Tina said exasperated. "Her presents are wrapped, the cake is picked up, balloons are ready to be put up with the streamers, and she is currently outside falling in love with Shane, Dana, and Kit because as far as I can see they are feeding her junk food."

"What?" Bette asked turning around and walking to the window to look outside.

Bette's eyes surveyed the scene playing out in front of her, her family enjoying themselves in the bright California sun. Angelica, Cathy, Renee, and Kristen were all floating in the pool debating about the latest Hollywood gossip. Alice was sitting in a lounge chair next to Helena, both with their eyes closed enjoying the sun in an effort to revive their summer tans. Shane, Dana, and Kit were all sitting at the patio table surrounding Sarah.

"You can do it," Shane said. "Just like I showed you."

"You can't rush something this important," Alice said from the lounger. "She's only 2 and I'm not sure she gets the concept."

"She does," Dana argued. "You can see the recognition in her eyes."

"Please don't make me beat you," Alice pleaded. "You'll turn her into a driven, obsessive child that has to be an overachiever instead of developing at her own rate."

"You can't be serious?" Helena sat up and squinted in Alice's direction. "It's not as if she's performing brain surgery."

Bette wrapped her arm around Tina as both looked out the window at their friends.

"In a child's world this is just as important as brain surgery!"

"Despite having to swallow just a little bit of my sanity here, I agree with Alice."

"Thank you Shane," Alice smiled. "Now someone is talking sense."

"I'm only agreeing with you because this is one of the most important lessons a kid can learn."

"Are you kidding me?" Kit asked shocked at the conversation unfolded before her. "Baby you just do it at your own pace."

Kit handed Sarah another cookie and kissed her forehead as Sarah bit a small part of the cookie off.

"See?" Shane pointed. "She gets that you have to bite part of the cookie off to let the milk seep in."

"Uh-huh," Helena nodded absentmindedly while soaking up the sun.

"Dunk it in," Shane urged Sarah. "Just not too much.
