"Melvin Porter being one of them."
"A relative of Bette's?"
"Her father," Tina rubbed Sarah's back to relax her even further. "He didn't disown her, but he wasn't the biggest fan of our relationship to put it mildly."
"Did he ever come around?"
"When he was dying I think he did," Tina said sadly. "It was so hard to tell because he was incoherent some of the time so I was never sure if he knew what he was saying or not."
"I bet that crushed Bette."
"She recovered I think," Tina reflected on her answer. "She doesn't talk about it much anymore."
"Time will heal all wounds then?"
Tina saw Megan staring at Sarah sitting on Tina's lap with tears in her eyes.
"She will always know you as her mother," Tina tried to reassure in a kind voice. "Nobody could ever replace you or Janet in her eyes."
"She's too young to have to face all this loss so early."
"She is," Tina agreed sadly. "But she should know how much you and Janet loved her and wanted what was best for her."
"If she isn't with someone that can relay that to her," Megan choked up and struggled to swallow. "How do you think she'll come to know that?"
Tina remained silent knowing she did not have any answers to offer Megan. Sarah began to lean her head on Tina's chest and close her eyes, drifting off to sleep.
"When do you plan on talking to Bette?" Megan asked quietly.
"When she wakes up."
"So the next time she sees me, she'll know I'm dying and asking you to raise my daughter," Megan stated knowing she didn't need confirmation.
"Does that make you nervous?" Tina asked.
"In a way it does, but in a way I'll be glad it's all out in the open."
"She'll want to be there for you," Tina simply stated. "I know her well enough to know she won't take this as well as we might hope."
"Because of what I've asked?"
"No," Tina smiled kindly at Megan. "Because she doesn't deal well with loss when it's someone she cares about."
Megan finally allowed her tears to fall, knowing once daylight broke the woman that made an immense impact on her life without knowing it, would know her last dying wish.

Heartbreaking, yet heartwarming at the same time. Beautifully written. I'll hate to see this story coming to end although I am so looking forward to a continuation of On Center Stage. Thank you for such a lovely read.

Wonderful as usual. It will hit the fan once Bette is informed. What about Angelica and her grounding? She was going to lie about going to the dance or am I mixing up different stories? PPasap.

oh Gumby, I look forward to this story everyday (pathetic, yeah I agree). I sure wish u'd finish that painting and get to this more often (again I know ...... greedy s.o.b). With all that is going on the ending of this story is gonna be heart wrenching to say the least, I bet. So seeing as I read this at 12.16am my time, so I guess when I wake up after actually going to bed, it would b safe to say no new chapter ...right? How bout making 3 or 4 posts this week then.....LOL!!!! Can't blame a girl for trying. Oh and what will Tina say to Bette when she misses her???? NEXT POST PLEASE!!!!!! PLEASE!!!!!!

Informed is the right word to use...tina seems to be unilaterally moving this along, and Bette is going to feel ambushed when she finds out, and she is being ambushed. A little late to insist on "talking to Bette," pretending to be including her in on it, now. If Bette did something like this people would be shredding her for being controlling and what have you, but it's ok when Tina does it? I don't think it's indicative of love and respect of the other partner at all...

Susannah... Tina's not perfect. Bette's not perfect. Their relationship isn't all sunshine and good times and noodle salad, either. But really, whose is? They have flaws, but they have a relationship that some fans of the show want to see mended and thriving... fanfic is a route to that. I don't have a crystal ball, so I don't know how this particular story is going to work out, but I think the title is at least indicative that any hope of seeing B&T trying to work through their flaws isn't misplaced. G'wan, Su, admit it: deep down, you really wanna see 'em happy, doncha? ;) ...Anyway, Gumby: great chapter, I hope what Tina's about to reveal doesn't send Bette completely round the bend. Post soon, thanks!

Just the most powerful and heartbreaking story. As a mother myself, I can just imagine how hard it is for Megan to contemplate not being in Sarahs life as she grows up, but how desperately she wants reassurance that Sarah will be in a happy, loving home. Beautifully written Gumby.

Hi jp22!! No I really don't want to see Bette and Tina back together, not even way way WAY deep down, especially when tina acts like this, whch in my opinion she has done from the beginning on the show. However, in this fic, she was trying to force Bette into agreeing to have another baby, even though Bette said she did NOT want one...and now is essentially going to drop this baby in Bette's lap and say we are going to raise this baby, and what you want or don't want doesn't matter....and that to me doesn't sound like someone showing respect and love, and not really working through the flaws! Just my opinion.

Well, they're old(er) farts now, so sunshine, lollipops and rainbows would be pretty lame. I guess it's abnormal to be hit with news that's so big it's hard to tell someone else as it hasn't really seeped into the ol' noggin. I still stand by my comments from the previous chapter. Now, onto this chapter. This whole thing is just sad, and this comment really sucks because it's about 5:15 AM and I need to sleep. Sorry. :(

I'm hoping Megan finds the time to record a video message to Sarah for when she's a bit older. Or make a box containing things of hers and her partner's. Something truly special to ensure she knows who her mothers were.

Thanks for posting Gumby. IF Bette had said she never wanted anymore children then I could see this as being a possible ambush...BUT she never said she didn't want more kids just that she didn't want Tina to be carrying a child this late in life. Susannah take the blinders off babe and see that Tina is not the enemy here. Tina is a kind, generous, loving person. In this story her and Bette have moved on from the hurt and pain that we all know happened on the show. I pity the person that crosses you in a relationship Su...will you be this unmoving staunch unforgiving person if you are crossed? Turn that frown upside down sometime babe. Happiness is NOT a bad thing....and people do move on. Love you Su...lol. More please Gumby.

Gumby another great chapter. Everyone knows I wanted to tar and feather Megan earlier and I still don't like the way she brought this to Bette and Tina but I do as a mother understand why she did it. Yes, I'm softening towards her, a little, lol, she does have a lot of guts to do this and someone just mentioned she should leave a recording for her child and a box of mementos, those are great ideas. Tina is not blindsiding Bette by talking to Megan first. Tina is however taking all into consideration as regards Bette in this scenario, just as she should. I think she and Bette will agree to do this and see a means to an end for them, for having a child, and not taking the medical risks by Tina becoming pregnant. This is by far the best solution to that problem. I think Megan should have taken a chance on treatment, we are having all kinds of progress these days and one never knows what will happen with the treatments because there is one thing that Megan is missing in this and it is the hand of God. With all the angst between our girls and Megan it has been a rather heavy story and with the storyline it could not be anything else. But it will surely lighten up after Bette and Tina talk. Great chapter and story Gumby. Thanks for sharing it with us. PPS

Wow, you made me cry. I have a lot of respect for someone who is working to take of her family before she moves on from this world. Bette will take it hard because she respects Megan as an artist. I am glad that Megan got to see the real Tina (really the Tina that I love). Sarah will have a new home hopefull Bette and Tina's but her birth family will never be forgotten with Bette and Tina as her mothers.

Taking in another person's baby is a serious and great responsibility. It's not like adopting or rescuing a cat or dog from the pound. They still have an obstreperous, conniving and duplicitous Angelica to deal with. It's not as if Sarah is Alice's or Kit's child. Megan, according to Bette, was a casual fling w/good sex, nothing more. Megan and Tina are going to guilt Bette into accepting Sarah b/c how can a feeling human being turn down the last wish of a dying person?

Hey Gumby, You have hit the emotional jackpot yet again. This tale rollercoasters through every emtion there is; one minute is full of tragedy; the next laughter; then deception; then kindness; the list is endless. I just love the variety you capture. Megan is trying to do the right thing despite the diifculty of leaving her child in the care of ano0ther. It was wonderful to read about Tina's internal debate on the pros and cons of Megan's offer balance against her need to share this mammoth moment with Bette. This is all life changing territory. Now, I do hoep that you continue this terrific and tremendous tale soon. Many thanks for all your wise and wonderful words. Your Loyal Fan.
