TwistedTales - thanks hun!
berna - yeah, Dana's a sweetie. Thanks.
ACH21 - you know what, I totally forgot that she only has one boobie. I'll have to put that discussion in next time.
Adelefiz - yeah, Harrison's a good guy. And thanks.
swismiss24 - haha, I don't even think about the show WHILE it airs. Seriously, I watch it and think "Damn, I can really make this better in my story." I'm a loser, lol. And she's not selfless...she just did that so she'd have somebody to be gay around, and it just happened to be him. He's her security blanket! And thanks, I was nervous posting that scene!
luvthatErin - ha, he totally is! And yeah, I can't see Alice leaving her alone with that stuff, although Dana basically did that to her...sorry, still bitter over the breakup. Oh well. Thanks.
HenryAndMax - thanks!
ackemat - I know, right? I love Harrison. He needs to come back on the show.
ogreat1 - haha, I love them too! And thanks, it was tough to write so I'm glad it worked!
JazzyS - lol, you're welcome hun! I'm just sorry it took so long for me to write it, I've been promising you for months now! And I've always thought the love between them was what made the sex so "mind-blowing," so I always try to have it present. As to the Tasha thing, I have no idea...maybe I could hook her up with Helena or something, lol.
Summary: Parties and flowers and condoms, oh my! (I suddenly feel a hell of a lot gayer having typed that).

"I can't believe she actually expects us to have a good time with straight people all over the place," Alice muttered, pushing half the clothes in the closet out of the way so she could look at the other half to try to find something to wear to Tina's dinner party.
"Come on, she's just trying to have everybody get along. It's got to be weird, being shunned from both the straight and gay communities. I figured you'd understand that feeling pretty well," Dana replied, watching in a sort of awed amusement as Alice deposited an armload of clothes onto the bed and started sorting through them. To anyone else, it would have looked like utter chaos, but Dana knew there was some sort of method to the madness. Even if she couldn't tell exactly what it was.
"Yeah, I totally get where she's coming from with that. It's not like I'm trying to judge her for being with a guy or anything, I just think the way she's going about this is awkward. It just feels forced to me, that's all. It's like she's trying to make everybody get along, and I just can't see it working. People generally stick with what makes them comfortable, so it's weird to me that she's trying to have a group of dykes mingling with the fucking Stepford Wives."
"You're being judgmental, Al. She's just being nice...and I bet you'd be even more pissed if she hadn't invited us at all. Let's just go and try to have a good time, okay? For Tina's sake. She's still our friend."
Alice stopped rifling through the heap of clothing and turned to Dana with a sigh and a shake of her head. "I know," she said quietly. "I know she is, and I think it's fucked that she feels like she can't be that anymore just because she's not sleeping with women."
"I don't know if that's all it is. I mean, we're all friends with Bette, so she probably just feels uncomfortable around us because of that." Alice nodded. "Hey, you didn't ever feel like that, did you? That you couldn't be friends with us if you slept with a guy?"
"Well, I'm not going to act like it wasn't awkward or anything, because it was. But no, I never really felt like you guys didn't want me around anymore. You made fun of me a lot, but it wasn't like I thought you were serious. Eventually I got tired of all the bullshit, though, so I took the easy way out," Alice replied, grinning and walking the whole two feet over to Dana to give her a quick kiss.
"But when we broke up it was hell," Dana went on, stepping slightly away from Alice so she wouldn't be distracted. For some reason, she felt like this was important. "It was a little bit like the whole Bette and Tina thing. I mean, not really, but it was so weird sitting at the Planet with everybody except you. It sort of seemed like the harder I tried to not have anybody take sides, the worse it got."
"That happens, though. To every couple, as long as they're together more than a month. If you hang out with the same people, there are going to be loyalties no matter what you do. And it's not like I made things any easier," Alice said softly. "Anyway, it's over now, okay? There's no use dwelling on it, what happened happened."
"Yeah, I guess," Dana said with a shrug. "So is Bette coming to this thing?"
"I asked her, but it doesn't sound like it. To be honest, I don't even know if Tina really wants her there. She didn't ask her or anything, but that might just be because it was awkward for her. I dunno. I can't see it being good if she does show up, though," Alice said as she finally found suitable clothes for the party. "Okay, I'm gonna get ready. Do you still want to go to the Planet afterward? We don't have to, if you'd rather just come home."
"Are you kidding me? There's no way I'd miss a party like that. And before you say anything, yes, I feel just fine, and if I should happen to get tired I'll be sure to let you know."
"I'm sorry! I just get worried sometimes -"
"I know you do. I appreciate it, baby, but you have to let me make those decisions, okay? I promise I won't overdo it."
Alice just nodded and made her way to the shower. Dana stared after her for a minute, then picked out her own outfit and went out to the living room to wait until the shower was free. To make use of the time, she called Helena and made sure she was going to be at the party. When this had been ascertained, Dana called Shane and got her confirmation too. By the time she was done making her round of phone calls, Alice was done with the shower.
They got to the party a little bit before the rest of their friends, mostly because Dana hadn't had a chance to talk to Tina much lately, and had to admit that she missed her. Alice made conversation with Henry and some of his friends while Dana and Tina got caught up a little. Alice had been right; it was awkward. But it was better than nothing.
The place started to fill up before too long, and Tina's old friends migrated toward the stairs while her new friends made the rest of the house theirs. Bette's arrival was a little shocking, and not just to Tina. Alice and Dana shared a worried glance as Bette made her way through the crowd, but eventually realized there wasn't a whole lot they could do. It was a definitely weird sort of gathering, and it was fairly obvious that nobody was exactly comfortable. Still, Tina's old friends tried their best. Shane even made conversation with some bitchy housewives when she got there.
Helena showed up before too long, having come straight from the Headquarters for Social Justice. "How's the working world?" Shane asked her, thankful to have an excuse to get away from the previously mentioned bitchy housewives.
"It's wonderful, aside from the fact that it's only part-time," Helena replied. "I love what I'm doing, though, even if it doesn't feel like much compared to what I used to do for the center and places like it."
"Yeah, I bet. But at least you're doing something, you know?" Dana asked, happy that Helena was adjusting so well to having her fortune pulled out from under her.
"Yeah, and hey, if you want to pick up something else, I'm in dire need of a receptionist for Wax right now. I just fired my old one," Shane told her, and Helena brightened visibly.
"Thank you, I really appreciate the offer. I'll have to sleep on it for a night or two before I decide though, will that be all right?"
"Sure, no big deal. I'm not holding a gun to your head or anything, but it's there if you want it."
"I might very well do it. I do love the job I have, but I'm not sure a part-time position is going to pay all the bills."
Shane just nodded, and not five minutes later Bette got accosted in the kitchen by a group of straight guys. Angus managed to save the day, and save Bette from getting into a huge argument about it, much to the delight of all of Tina's former friends. To smooth things over after Angus left, Tina suggested a game, and everyone agreed, although the great majority of them were a little put off by the idea. Alice and Dana sat with each other on the floor, while Bette, Shane, Jenny and Helena took the couch. The game was a little weird for everyone, and Dana couldn't help but wonder how the hell people could be so knowledgeable about certain things and have absolutely no clue about other things.
"Terrell Owens is a football player," Dana whispered to Alice after Jenny had stated she didn't know who he was. The other team was exclaiming in disbelief as Alice looked at her in shock.
"How the fuck do you know that?" she whispered back.
"Hi, my name's Dana and I used to play a sport called tennis professionally," Dana retorted. Shane, having heard the conversation, burst out laughing. Bette took that as her cue to leave, and the rest of the group followed, making lame excuses to Tina as they left.
