Sam’s natural highlights coming out, making her grey eyes look that much darker and filled with mischief than before.
“Better…,” said Brian, walking around Sam, who was standing, rolling her eyes dramatically. “Much better,” nodded Brian. Reaching out and messing up Sam’s hair even more, Sam slapping his hand away, laughing.
Brian reached into his pocket, just as his cell phone rang, tossing the small phone to Sam, “Get that for me, will you? It’s the other set of munchers.”
Sam caught it with a deft hand, winking at Shane as she did and turned away, taking the call. Brian handed Shane some hundred dollar bills, and Shane looked down at the huge tip in her hand.
“Thanks, hey…” began Shane, “I’ll give this back if you give me her address?” grinned Shane.
“How about her cell phone number?” offered Brian.
“Address,” said Shane, wagging the money at him. Brian seemed to think it over for about four seconds, grabbing Shane’s hand and a pen from the inside of his jacket.
“You tell her I gave this to you, and I’ll skin you alive,” grumbled Brian. Clicking the pen off and taking the money from Shane, then handing it back to her. “If you can get her out on a date, I’ll give you double.”
Grinning, Shane said, “If I can get her on a date, I’ll give you double.”
“I like you already,” said Brian in a dead pan voice.
“You’re not so bad your self, Mr. Kinky,” shot back Shane as Brian walked away.
“Shaymen can cut my hair any day,” said Brian, ruffling his sister’s hair.
Shane was laying on her bed, looking up at the projection clock numbers flickering on her ceiling. Ticking away the moments of her life, stuck in her slump of wanting to go out and find Carmen, apologize until she couldn’t breath anymore, or go out and find a woman to fuck.
Sam.
The oddly alluring tomboy of a woman that had sat in her chair today, not caring what she looked like, just wanting to please her brother. Those damn grey eyes that sort of told a story. Gave you a shiver when she looked at you…
Shane looked at her hand, for the 100th time, looking at the address that was there, “Fuck it.”
Getting up from the bed, slipping into a pair of pants and a tee shirt that read Gush, Shane left the house. Passing Jenny’s bedroom, tip toeing because it seemed that Jenny was caught up in some lustful playing behind the door.
It took Shane twenty minutes to reach the address, the lights were ablaze in the house, Shane parked her jeep. Looking up at the upscale house, wondering what Sam did for a living. Strutting up to the door, hands in her pocket, she knocked on the door.
“Man hoo choos!” said the young boy that answered the door, all of eight years old, his mouth dropping into an O when he saw Shane at the door. “MOM! There is a chick at the door!” he yelled, leaving the door wide open and dashing into the other room.
“Um,” began Shane, seeing the bathing suit clad kid running to the back of the house. Shane started to wonder what was going on, was she at the right house?
“You know, you only call me MOM when you want something,” laughed Sam, scooping the boy up into her arms and walking into the living room. “Hi…”
“Um, Hi,” said Shane. The boy wasn’t the same boy that Sam had been carrying the other day, but he was about the same age.
“Go take a shower, I want your teeth brushed, and then come back down to say goodnight, ok?” said Sam to the boy.
The boy nodded, his hands a blur before him, Sam rolled her eyes, “You are being rude, you talk when someone else is around, Jesse.”
“Sorry,” he said sheepishly, smiling at Shane. He bolted up the half moon staircase and disappeared.
“Sorry, he’s rambunctious sometimes, can I help you?” asked Sam confused.
“Yeah, well, see… you… this isn’t what I’d imagined,” laughed Shane. Sam nodded, stepping up to Shane, leading her into the house and closing the door. Shane felt her breath stopping in her throat as Sam put a hand at the small of her back to move around her.
“What had you imagined? Walking in, me pinning you to the door, kissing you, and then fucking you before we ever made it to the bedroom?”
Shane stammered, unable to form a word.
“I was kidding…,” laughed Sam. Motioning for Shane to come deeper into the house.
“We met,” started Shane.
“Yeah, this afternoon,” said Sam. “Soda?”
“Um, sure. No, I mean, this weekend. You asked me if the moving truck was at Lindsay and Mel’s? I said no…”
“That was you? The hat must have thrown me off,” smiled Sam, handing Shane a cold soda.
“You… you dropped this,” stammered Shane. Handing the small cell phone to Sam. Where was the smooth Shane? The one that would have already made a move? Shane sighed, knowing that that Shane was long gone.
“That’s where I lost it. I could have sworn that Gus took it, he kept playing with it and taking pictures. Thanks. But…,” said Sam, thinking.
“Yeah?”
“How did you get my address?” asked the always thinking tomboy. Hiding the smile that played on her lips.
“Your brother, he gave it to me,” smiled Shane. “I didn’t look at your numbers or anything.”
“SAM!” yelled Jesse from the top of the stairs, Sam hung her head dramatically, sighing.
“Yes my darling young son?” asked Sam, looking at Shane and in a stage whisper, “He only calls me mom when he’s taken by surprise or wants something.”
“I dropped the soap,” he said seriously and Sam clenched her jaw, the muscles of her mouth working, attempting to not laugh.
“Who told you that? Brian? I swear, you are not spending any more time with him…”
Jesse came bounding down the steps, marched up to Shane, sticking his hand out and smiling at her sweetly, “I’m Jesse, her kid,” he tossed his head towards Sam. “Just to let you know, I’m very even tempered, I no longer bite strangers…,” at this, Sam began to groan. “and I have no misconceptions about my mom, she’s a big lezzie.”
“Enough! BED!” roared Sam, grabbing Jesse and hoisting him over her shoulder. “God, where did you manners go?”
Shane was laughing, moving to the couch in the open living room, sitting down and waiting for Sam to reappear. Finally the tomboy appeared, a smirk on her lips as she walked back to the living room.
“Sorry about that, ever since Lindsay and Mel moved to LA, he’s been intent on me finding a girlfriend.”
“That’s cool, I don’t have much experience with kids, are they all like him?” asked Shane.
