"Tina came running out of the bedroom with a look of pure relief on her face. "Kit!! I am so glad you’re here!"
Bette stopped long enough to plant a quick, but intense kiss on Tina’s lips, and then in long purposeful strides, walked back into the bedroom, leaving a stunned Tina and Angus behind her.
Without thinking, Tina put her fingers to her lips, and whispered, "My God, they even kiss alike!"
"Bette!" Bette yelled, "Where are you?"
Coming to her senses, Tina rushed after her lover’s sister and entered the bedroom right behind her.
"Kit, please talk to her. I don’t know what’s going on, but she won’t come out of the bathroom. She is just sitting in there talking to herself."
"It’s okay baby, I’ll take care of it." Bette reached up and caressed Tina’s cheek with her hand, but when she saw the confusion on Tina’s face, she immediately lowered her hand. Clearing her throat, she looked back at the door.
"So, what has she been saying?" She asked.
"Well, I haven’t been able to make everything out, but it sounds like she keeps repeating the words, "There’s no place like home." and then I hear this clicking sound. And, then she repeats it over and over again."
Tina reached out and grabbed her sister-in-law’s hand, pleading with her. "Please Kit, help her. I don’t know what to do...I don’t even know what’s wrong."
Bette squeezed the hand of her lover, wanting so badly to tell her she was right there, and all would be okay. She just needed to figure out what happen. And then, as she looked into the worried eyes of the woman she loved, it hit her. ‘...there will be a man in your future.....you will be standing before a crowd.’
‘Oh my God,’ she thought. That woman! ‘...soon you will find out that all is not as it seems.’
"Kit Porter, open this door right now!!" Bette yelled at the door, choosing to ignore the gasp that came from behind her.
"Bette," Kit’s voice was soft and scared. "Is that you baby sis?"
Another gasp came from behind her, which again she chose to ignore. "Yes, now open the door, we have someplace to go!"
Slowly the bathroom door opened, and the head of Bette Porter poked out, looking around.
"Jesus Kit, I’m not that scary. Now, come on...we have a tarot card reader to visit."
Bette grabbed onto what should have been her own hand, and started for the door. But, when she passed Tina she stopped, wrapping her up in her free arm and holding her close.
Whispering, she reassured her. "I know you’re scared, and I know that you don’t understand what is happening, but just know this..." Then repeating her words from the night before, she continued. "This is not our truth. I love you with my entire being. Please don’t worry."
For the third time in less than two minutes, Tina gasped and covered her mouth with her hand. "Bette?" She whispered.
Bette smiled and winked at her, and started for the door, only to stop one more time.
"Oh, and Tina," she said, grinning at the love of her life, while rubbing her stomach.
"Next time I’m having the baby."
The End
