"Sorry An...honey, but I have a headache." Bette stared at herself in the bathroom mirror, her eyes welling with tears. "Oh my God! What happened?" Pacing around and around in the small space, Bette racked her brain trying to figure out what was going on. Was this a dream? Thinking it couldn’t hurt, she turned on the faucet and splashed cold water on her face. Looking back up into the mirror she was dismayed to see her sister’s face reflecting back at her. "Fuck!" She screamed."Kit...baby, what’s the matter." Angus asked, his voice laced with concern.
"Huh? Oh, nothing honey bunny, just stubbed my toe."
"Do you want me to come in there and kiss it all better?" Angus asked as he leaned up against the door.
"No pookey bear," Bette answered, using the stupid nickname she had hear Kit call Angus. "I’m fine. Why don’t you go back to bed."
Bette started pacing again as she heard Angus retreating from the door. Running her fingers through her hair, she tried desperately to figure out how she had ended up like this, and what she was going to do about it!
Then it hit her...if she was here in Kit’s body, who was in her body?
KIT!!!! Oh God, Tina!!!!
Bette practically tore the door from it’s hinges as she raced from the bathroom to get to the phone. Dialing as fast as she could, she breathlessly waited for someone to pick up the phone at home.
"Hello." She heard the soft groggy voice of her lover.
"Hey Tina," she said softly, instantly missing the beautiful blonde.
"Kit?" Tina asked, recognizing the voice.
"What?" Bette heard a muffled response coming through the phone.
"No babe, it’s Kit on the phone."
"Tina," Bette repeated. "Is Bette there?"
All of a sudden Bette heard a scream, and then her own voice coming through the phone lines.
"Tina Kennard, what are you doing in my bed, and where the hell is Bette!!!"
"Baby, what is wrong..." Tina asked of the woman she thought was her partner.
"Tina?" Bette repeated into the phone, desperate to get the blondes attention.
"Oh dear lord, where am I?" She heard, again in her own voice.
"Bette, please calm down. What’s wrong baby?" Came Tina’s confused voice. "Baby, why are you backing away from me? Where are you..."
Bette heard a slam in the back ground, and knew that was the sound of her sister also retreating into the nearest bathroom.
"Kit? Look, Bette’s going to have to call you back."
"No Tina...I need to..." Bette was talking to a dial tone. Hanging up the phone, she looked up to see Angus’s concerned face.
"You okay?"
"Huh, yeah sure. I just need to...uh...I need to get to The Planet." There’s liquor there, Bette thought, and I don’t care what time it is, I most definitely need a drink!
Bette stormed into The Planet, followed by Angus who wouldn’t leave her side, no matter how much she told him she was okay, and walked straight back behind the bar.
Horrified, Angus reached out, stopping her from grabbing the nearest bottle. "Kit, baby...now you really have me worried. What is going on with you? You know you can’t drink that."
"Yes I can," Bette pouted back. "Believe me, if there was ever a day when it was okay for me to have a drink, today is that day!! Now, please just let me be!!"
"Kit," Angus said softly. "The baby."
That stopped Bette cold. "Oh fuck." She breathed out. Lowering the bottle to the counter, she dropped her face into her hands. "I don’t understand what happened. I don’t belong here. This isn’t who I am suppose to be." She whispered the confession so softy, laced with so much sadness it almost broke Angus’s heart.
"Come with me baby. I think I know of a place that will make you feel better.
