well, one step at a time."
Professor Bailey retorts, "Out of your mind? YEAH! You put HER out of your mind? Why? You're just going to ignore it?"
Bette replies, "No, but she..."
"Hasn't a clue what she's putting you through. Please Bette, you have to deal with this more constructively. Professor Ayreana isn't stupid, nor is she a right wing fundamentalist...you can't develop your professional relationship with her unless you're honest with her. She's pretty decent...she'll understand."
"Professor it's not necessary...I...I don't think she's really that important to me...I think it was just that period after Thanksgiving and everything. Dad and my sister had the fight and I was at my wits' end...all the pressure. Things are better now, Kit's more a part of my life, and daddy...well, he's got work to keep him busy, but I think he finally accepts the importance of Kit in my life and maybe even his."
Professor Bailey rubs Bette's arm, "I don't know Porter, I think you..."
Bette interrupts, "Hey, it's ok...I'm OK. I'll tell you if things get rough...ok prof?"
"Ok," replies the professor as she leans back comfortably in her chair. She decides it's better to let Bette off the hook for now. "Ok Porter, you go pick her up at the airport tomorrow. I told her I can't come and that one of my protégés will be in attendance to escort her."
"Protégé?"
"Yes...that's how we professors talk amongst each other you know." She smirks.
"Ok then...well...
