Helena watched as Alice dragged Lara with her towards the corner of The Planet, where a group of women were standing. "What's Alice doing?"
Shane shrugged. "Alice is determined to not have Lara moping and waiting for Dana."
"Lara isn't moping."
"Not according to Alice," Shane shrugged. She turned to Helena. "How's Tina?"
"She's fine."
"Good?"
Helena smiled as she took a sip of her drink. "Feel free to ask."
"I don't know what you mean."
"You're concerned for your friend." Helena said.
Shane frowned at her. "She broke up with Bette after she cheated with a man."
Helena looked at her expectantly.
Shane sighed. "Is she okay?"
"She's fine." Helena assured her.
They both glanced across the room, at where Bette was sitting by the bar, talking to a woman.
"You know, I was actually worried that I'd never get to see Bette as a player," Shane told Helena.
"She had quite a reputation, didn't she?" Helena surmised.
They both watched as the woman willingly obliged Bette's dance request.
Shane shook her head, averting her gaze someplace else. "Now I wish I never did."
Helena continued to watch silently. She'd promised Tina discretion on her lovelife, but was more than aware of Tina's continued affection for Bette Porter. Helena had learned to notice Tina's moods, the way she was noticeably happier after the weekend, even though she knew Tina was not dating. Well, not anymore. And Helena, unfortunately for her, knew why.
It was disappointing, really, for her to know that after everything that had happened, Tina still loved Bette: Because that meant that despite Tina's affections towards her, she never really had a chance with Tina Kennard.
Shane glanced at Helena. "You know, you're not as vile as I thought you were."
"Thank you." Helena furrowed her brow. "I think."
"No, I mean it." Shane said. "After that year when you were dating Tina and making sport of Bette's life, I really thought you were the devil incarnate."
"Then I really hope I've proven you wrong." Helena said.
Shane smiled. "You were good to Alice. And now Tina. I really admire that."
"Admire what?"
"You don't have to pick sides." Shane replied. "When this went down I felt betrayed by Tina, you know?"
"I think we all were." Helena admitted. She watched as Bette moved closer to the brunette.
Shane watched Helena's expression change, and glanced at where she was looking. "What's wrong?"
Helena blinked, glancing at her. "What do you mean?"
"You're sitting here talking to me but you look like you're ready to gut Bette and feast on her entrails."
"Touching imagery," Helena said dryly. She sighed. "Bette's enjoying herself."
"Shouldn't she?" Alice asked, joining them.
Shane glanced at her and Lara. "How did it go?"
Lara glared at Alice. "Cradle snatcher."
"I didn't know!" Alice exclaimed. "Geez, Shane doesn't care if the kids are barely legal. Why should you?"
Lara looked at her, and decided it was not worth the debate.
Alice followed Helena's gaze. "Way to go, Porter."
Helena looked at her.
"What?" Alice asked.
Helena shook her head, and looked at her friends. "Do any of you call Tina?"
Lara frowned. "I don't know her number."
"You're excused," Helena said. She levelled a look at the other two. "Well?"
"We all don't know her number, Helena." Alice reminded. "She wasn't exactly forthcoming with information when she moved out."
"We don't know where she lives," Shane added.
"And you never asked, why?"
"I'm sorry, Peabody, but I don't know what you're going on about." Alice said. "I'm not going to call TK or come by and run the risk of her boyfriend answering the door."
"They broke up!" Helena exclaimed in exasperation. "That affair didn't even live to see a month."
"She fucked off with some guy!" Alice snapped back.
Shane and Lara noticed the attention Alice and Helena were gathering, including Bette's, and began to move the two women outside.
