BETTE-  "I said to you once that all that I am and would ever be is beholden to you, lost to the world and found in you, never apart from you, and always with youthat I belong to you, now, always and forever.  And if you see nothing else in me, hear nothing else from me, feel nothing else for me, hear this, see this, and feel thisI love you, I am in love with you, and no other thing, place or person can change that, challenge that or take it away.  It is all yours to do with what you wish, whether it's to say goodbye to me now and take my child from me, or whether it's to come back to me.  It doesn't matter, because I am dead to everyone and everything, except you and her.  I can do nothing to change that, I want nothing to add to that, and all else I know is belittled to that.  I need, want, and care for no one other than you.  You are all I ever dreamed of, wanted, or needed in a lover.  You are my life, you are part of me and you are the best part of methere is no other love, there is no other, there really never was or could be.  I love you."

ALICE-  (She's grabbing Kit's sleeve and shaking itand in her own way addressing Bette, who can't hear her)  "What's going on?  Frig Porter, pick her up"

SHANE-  "Shhhshut up Al"

KIT-  (Wanting to tell Bette and Tina) "Come on.come on."

BETTE-  (Her tears are joining the unrelenting rain)  "You can either look into my eyes and my heart, which is naked before you now, and accept me or reject me.  Either you take my hand and jump with me into the rest of our life together, or you walk away from me, but I will not let you go unless you look into me and tell me what you wantwhat you truly want."

TINA-  (Her eyes are red with pain and regret re-lived, time lost, love and loss regained and remembered.  She had forgotten those words that Bette had spoken to her so long ago.  They had their commitment ceremony in front of all their friends.  As the tears re-filled her eyes, resurfaced, and streamed down her face, Tina, inspired by those words Bette said to her once, re-saw those moments from long ago in her mind's eyeand she now looked into Bette's heart, mind and soul as she heard her speak.  She looked into those eyes and saw something she hadn't seen in a long time.  She saw nothing else.  All that cluttered and obstructed her view to her lover's heart was no morewell, it was all still there somewhere, but it was collateralon the sidelines of the most important part of Bette, the part of her that still belonged to Tinathe little precious treasure of Tina was thereshe thought, she feared that she'd never see it again.  And as Bette looked into Tina's eyes, she found her soul and recognized herthis was the woman to whom she had first given her love and her solemn vow.  Pronouncing every part of every word, as she spoke Tina's voice impacted her own heart as it admitted its greatest weakness and most profound substanceit was so very simple)  "I want you.  I love you."

(And with that, Tina lunges at Bette, this time lunging into her arms and this time hugging more than in kind, with a vengence.  Bette cried, and if it wasn't for her comparatively larger size, she would have fallen over.)

The spectators respond.  Alice jumps into Kit's arms and Shane stands there in tears.  Alice and Kit are almost jumping up and down.

SHANE-  "Guys, guys, waitwait"

ALICE-  "What?  What's wrong Shane?"

SHANE-  "How do we know that they didn't just say goodbye?"

ALICE-  (Alice knows that she could be right)  "Fuckdamit Shane, do you have to frigginughhhh!!!!"

KIT-  "She's right.  It could be"

ALICE-  "Well, what do we do now?"  

SHANE-  "Wait, I guess."  (They'd have to wait a while.  Bette was rocking Tina in her arms.  They were oblivious to the world around them.  The minutes passed and they reveled in each other's arms, crying, releasing, and feelingjust feeling.  After a little while, Bette initiated a rising.  She helped Tina up.  Still watching them, Alice grabbed Kit's arm again.  Shane now grabbed Alice's arm.  While leaning on her for support, Tina walked with Bette back to the house.  They ascended the porch and went inside.  Bette closed the door.  The spectators looked at one another.  They started walking towards the house.  They stood in the front walkway.  Bette and Tina had resumed their embrace just inside, just passed the door. 

TINA-  "I'm so tired."

BETTE-  "I know.  I'm exhausted."

TINA-  "We're just a little moist too, wouldn't you say?"

BETTE-  (She chuckled)  "We should get out of these clothes.  I'll get you something to wear."  (But they didn't move.  As they continued to hold each other, Tina was standing facing the front of the house.  She looked out the window, inadvertently at first, then notices the spectators.  She chucklesthen she starts to shake.  Bette was worried at first, thinking she was crying, but as she brought her forward she saw that Tina was laughing uncontrollably.)  "OkayTwhat's going onit's really not that funny"  (Tina starts crying from the laughter)  "Tina"  (Tina points to the site that had her in tears and Bette follows her pointing hand)  "Oh my Godwhat the hec is THAT?  What are they doing?"

TINA-  (Wiping her tears of laughter from her face and calming down with a sigh) "I think it's a vigil actuallythey drove me here and depending upon what happened, I was either going to walk out of here and into Alice's car or signal her that I was spending the night."  (Bette smiles, her eyes water, and then she shakes her head.  She walks to the door and opens it.  The hapless spectators stand there in fear.  Bette, taking Tina's hand, walks out to the pilgrims who were desperately hoping for their long awaited miracle.)

BETTE-  "So, I don't see any candleswe need candles if this is going to work."

ALICE-  "Porter you jackass"

SHANE-  "WAITstop"

KIT-  "What?"

ALICE-  "Take it easywhat are you yelling about?"

SHANE-  "Cut the crapjust be cleargoodbye or hello?"

TINA- "Actually, goodbye."

ALICE- "What?"

KIT-  "Oh no"

TINA-  (Walking with Bette's hand in her's, closer to the group and raising her hand to Kit's face)  "Goodbye"  (turning to Shane) "to the crap, all that crapand hello to everything else, no matter what that is."

ALICE-  (She jumps Tina and hugs her like there's no tomorrow.  She cries almost uncontrollably) "I wish she were here to see this."

TINA-  "I know sweetie, I know.  I'm so sorry we put you through all of this."

ALICE-  "You boobsdo you have any idea what you did to us?  Damn you owe usowe us big timewe're talking huge parties at your place, barbecues, free coffee at the Planet for months"

KIT-  "Hey!"  (She hugs her sister while patting Alice on the head.)

(They stand there for several moments, just embracing one another and taking it all in, in silence.  Shane had disappearedand returned with Angelica.  She comes up to them and they grow silent and watch Shane.  She hands Angelica to Tina.  Tina kisses her and then slowly turns to Bette and puts her into Bette's arms.  Bette feels warmth envelop her body and tears form in her eyes as she looks down into Angelica's eyes.  Bette looks up and smiles.)

BETTE-  "Come on, you guys have been out here, we've all been out here in the rain way too much today.  Let's go in for some hot tea and coffee."  (They all go inside.
