SHANE-  "No, thanks.  Ah, I didn't have plans anyway!"  (They both chuckle and Shane goes out to talk to Alice.  She returns shortly thereafter.)  "You know, I agree with what Al said to you.  I know that a few simple words don't fix everything that's happened, and everything that's happened tonight is whole kettle of fish by itself.  It's a lot to deal with.  But I really think the important thing is that you two communicate, bear your hearts and minds to one another, and do whatever you need to put things back on trackwhether it's 'hello' or 'goodbye'.  Sometimes this relationship crap gets so brain-numbingand you guys wonder why I have such trouble with commitment.  People withdraw into themselves and get bogged down in their fears.  They overanalyze what the other person is doing or saying or not doing or not saying and it's just a vicious cycle of interpreting one another and reacting stop, open up, talk, and listen." 

BETTE-  "No offence Shane, but didn't you and Carmen."

SHANE-  "Yeah yeahok.  But think of it this wayI speak from experience! (she smiles and winks.)"

BETTE-  "Ah!"  (Bette smiles.  Shane sits on the bed again and Bette follows.)  "You wanna stay in here?"

SHANE-  "Yeah.  It's got a cool aura!  Trying to pick up the vibe you seemaybe it'll improve my"

BETTE-  "Shane there hasn't been a good aura in here for monthsremember?"

SHANE-  "Hey, what you got will never go away, one way or the other my friend.  Bette"  (Bette looks at her)  "What do you want?"

BETTE-  "You mean other than a stiff drink, a long hot bath, and an even longer peaceful sleep?"  (Shane nods.)  "I don't know Shane.  I feel like I'm at the end of a rope or the edge of a cliff."

SHANE-  "Well, if you were to jump, or swing off that rope, what thought would be in your mind when you do it?"

BETTE-  "Letting go, I guess."  (Shane was shocked.  That's not an answer she wanted to hear, even though she wasn't certain of what it meant.)  "And don't ask me what that meansI don't know."

SHANE-  "Ok, then on the edge of that cliff, before you decide to jump, what's holding you back from the precipice?"

BETTE-  "Tina."  (Shane looks ahead at the bedroom wall and looks down.  She turns to look at Bettenewly sprouted tears fall to the floor.)

(At the hospital, Kit is re-entering Tina's space behind the curtain in the emergency room.  Tina had finished dressing.)

KIT-  "You got everything Tina?"

TINA-  "Yes, I think so.  The nurse said to wait here for the discharge.  The doctor just has to come back."  (Tina was sitting on the stretcher, with her legs hanging over the side.)  "Kit, thank you so much for being here for me.  I know it's been really difficult for you too."

KIT-  (She goes up to the stretcher and stands next to Tina.)  "I'm so happy that you're alright Tina.  My heart stopped when I saw you fall.  You know that even with everything that's been going on I still care about you right?"  (Tina nods.  Kit lifts her hand to Tina's shoulder.)  "I wish weyoucould have avoided all the pain and heartacheI wish you could've gotten to some clarity without all the pain of the past months and tonight."

TINA-  "The hard part isn't overthe worst might be yet to come."

KIT-  "I know, I know.  Are you sure that"

TINA-  "Kit, I can't let this continue.  I've been so confused for so long.  I have felt so far away from her and yet somehow wanting to run ever further, and yet the whole time somehow desperately wanting her to reach me, to come after me, to find me."

KIT-  "And tonightwhat did she find?"

TINA-  (She looks at Kit)  "You heard hershe looks at me now and sees nothingshe only sees Angelica."

KIT-  "Nothing?!  Babygirl, what nothing?  She's been hurting so much these past several months.  Her heart was being shreddedpiece by piece.  She seemed to stand back and watch you walk away.  It's like she felt she couldn't do anything or like she wanted you to figure it out on your own.  I think she was scared at what she thought she saw when she looked into your eyes.  I'm not sure I understood what I was seeing either.   That wonderful love I had come to knowit's like it just disappeared behind whatever there was on the surface.  I couldn't understand her reactions eitherthere was something defeatist in her eyes.  But Tina, not nothinglooking at you the last thing she will see is 'nothing'you were her everything."

TINA-  "Yeah Kit, 'were'"

KIT-  "Noyou decided, you acted, and she did the same.  But I didn't see you, the two of you, pick yourselves up and face each other without all the crapyou two didn't decide whether this relationshipand what a doozie it iswas going to be a thing of the past or if it was time to move on together.  Instead, you just tortured yourselves with this tug of war and reverting to Angelica as the point of reference."

TINA-  "That's not fair.,."

KIT-  "I know you love your daughterand you know she loves your daughter more than herself."

TINA-  "OUR daughter."

KIT-  "That's not what you've been telling her."

TINA-  "When did I say anything"

KIT-  "I mean with your actions Tina.  And hershe had no business doing what she did today.  I could just beat her ass to a pulp.  But damn Tina, that child couldn't mean more to her if she had given birth to her."

TINA-  "I know Kit.  Kitwhat did Henry say?"

KIT-  "He was pissed.  He wanted to come here.  But he was ok after a while.  I think he understands.  I don't understand why you made ME speak to him.  I think he deserved you speaking to him directly and not just handing me the phone after you told him you were ok and found Angelica."

TINA-  "Kit, I'm sorry, I just didn't have anything to say to him.  I don't have anything to offer him now."

KIT-  "Tina, did you mean what you said?"

TINA-  (Tina knows what Kit's referring toher words to Bette after she hit her head..)  "Do you really need to ask?"

KIT-  "I guess what I'm really asking is, what do you want now?  Since you meant what you saidwhat does that mean?"
