"No.." Tina
said in a soft whisper her mind racing and feet stuck in place. Bette
was stunned but not really the B Bar had been a huge cosmic hint that
there was more to this place. Bette took a step toward Tina and her
name felt like heaven coming across Bette's lips and out of her heart
"Tina.."
Tina felt panic and warmth in her face. Her only thought was to turn
and run and that's exactly what she did. She backed up and ran. Ran out
the back door as fast as she could, feeling as if she were in dream..
and she was falling.
"Kit!" yelled Bette but Kit was right next to her. "What the hell is
going on?" "This is so fucking not cool" Kit tried to think quickly it
happened quickly but she thought that a quick shock was better for both
of them. "Ok, calm down.. Bette, it's time" "Who fucking gave you
permission?" yelled Bette. Rachel and Sammy looked shocked and didn't
know what to say but Rachel hated to see Tina upset she thought about
going to check on her.
Bette knew she needed to go after Tina to explain that she knew nothing
about this. She wanted to see her so badly. Look in her eyes, and to
hear her voice..
Bette pushed
quickly through the back of the store and out the door. There was a
bench about 20 yards away and she could see Tina but more importantly
she heard her weeping. Bette walked over and gently sat down. She had
no words. She wanted to comfort her. She could just kill Kit and Alice.
This had Alice written all over it.. "T, I'm so sorry.. I had no idea..
I would never do this to you.. I have too much respect for you.." All
Tina could think about was how much she wanted to bury her head in
Bette's shoulder and cry. Bette smelled so good and for that moment she
saw her in the store she looked wonderful. Her voice has so much love
in it. How could there still be that kind of tenderness in her voice?
"T.. talk to me.. please" Bette moved her hand to softly touch Tina's
shoulder. Touching her again was something Bette thought would never
happen. "I..I don't understand.. Why are you here?" Tina said in a
hushed tone and for the first time her eyes met Bette's. Those
chocolate pools looked back at her with hurt and love. Tina hated to
see Bette hurting no matter what had ever happened between them. "Tee..
you have to believe me" Bette takes Tina's hand. "this is all apart of
a Kit and Alice plan" "That figures" Tina said with a slight laughter
through tears voice. And then there was silence. Each of them not
knowing what to say next but holding hands was comforting and calming;
not wanting to be the first to break away from the touch of the other.
"Tina you look amazing", "From the moment I opened the door to the
store I felt at home. It was the bread smell" "Bette you love bread.."
Tina remarked. "How un-carb PC of me" The both laugh gently as tears
flowed so easily from each to them.
"Tina how are you?" "may I ask that?" Tina turned to look into Bette's
soulful brown eyes. How she had longed for this moment.. "of course you
can ask me that" said Tina "and the answer is that I love it here, it's
peaceful and brings me comfort" Bette let Tina's hand go, thinking that
she really had not right to be there and she felt panic all of a sudden
- looking around. Tina knew this was not only hard for her but Bette
too and for some reason she wanted to calm Bette and ease her mind.
Tina took Bette's hand and held it firmly reconnecting with her eyes
again. Bette's heart stopped racing so hard and she looked deep into
Tina eyes. And there is was.. love, it was overwhelming. She looked
back and then down, feeling as if she did not deserve that look of
love. "Tina, I.. I can hardly breathe, let alone look into your eyes"
"but I want you know that not a day passes without thoughts of you" on
the word you Bette looked at her again, she was shouting I love you
with her eyes.
From the
distance Kit could see them talking she could see the tenderness. It
was the right thing to do, her hardheaded sister had been miserable
these past years. Models and actresses for lovers - no soul mate, Tina
was and is her one and only soul mate - even if she is too stubborn and
afraid to acknowledge the fact. Kit turns so her back is to Bette and
Tina and starts to walk back toward the shop a bit. She pulls out her
cell. Hitting speed dial - "Alice, girlfriend - operation fall leaves
is under way!" Alice screams in the phone "hot damn, Porter and Kennard
we have lift off!" Alice and Kit start laughing. "O.K. Kit, tell me
everything girl.. I know Bette was pissed off beyond measure" "Let, me
tell you I thought death was certain for me"
Tina loved the
feel of Bette's hand even though she rejected Bette's repeated attempts
at reconciling. It was not about punishing Bette; it was about finding
herself again. "Tina this has all been a shock and I think we both need
time to just breathe and think" "I understand.." Tina said softly. "Kit
and I are here for a night or two at the Inn. Can I call you tomorrow -
perhaps we can have breakfast?" "That sounds great, I'll call and wake
you up, you know I get up earlier than you" Tina flashed Bette a warm
smile. "Well, Tina I guess some things never change.. I do like to
sleep in" There was a long pause they just looked at one another so
much being said through their eyes. Almost at the same moment they
stroked one another faces, still saying nothing.
