There were women and more women but only for a short time and she had spent the last year totally alone. Tina would be 38 this year.. I bet she looks amazing. I know Alice talks to her from time to time she thought to herself but I don't want the details. I don't want to know about how she has probably found another love. Kit had gotten better about not bugging her over the whole thing. "Just call her".. Kit would say "get the number from Alice". But I don't have the right Bette would think to herself. Not after what I did, the way I hurt her - I don't deserve to know. I only pray that she is happy. "Happy Birthday T", she whispered to herself. A trip to remember LAX can be such a mad house but she and Kit were off to New York for some art buying, shopping a bit of rest. Kit had booked them a night in a place in Vermont that sounded lovely and Bette looked forward to relaxing, drinking in all the colors of fall and some apple cider. Spring Hollow sounded like a perfect place for a bit of R&R. Kit and Bette enjoyed the days in New York. It was fun to travel together, good New York restaurants, a few clubs and time with the new artists Bette had wanted to meet perhaps finding new work for Bette to showcase in her galleries, which had become the talk of L.A. and Rome. One night at the Inn at Lake George then off to Vermont and Spring Hollow, Bette only wanted to stay a day or so but Kit had a feeling this trip might take much longer than her baby sis had ever dreamed. After a big late breakfast it was off to Vermont. The drive up I-95 had so many memories for them both. The few family trips that had been good with their father, He loved Vermont and all the apples and bakeries and small shops. It was the only time they could recall Melvin wearing jeans. Bette and Kit laughed and chatted during the drive. They took a smaller road once they got near the Lake. It was such stunning countryside. Finally the sign said welcome to The Village of Spring Hollow. They had decided to check into the Inn and then take a nice afternoon walk around town and stretch after the drive. Alice had told Kit where the store was so Kit knew exactly where to take Bette. It was a Sunday afternoon and the little town was buzzing with visitors all there to soak up the clean air and colors of fall. They walked across a bridge and Kit pointed out another store. "That looks cute.. Tiny Country Store". "And look at the fresh bread sign in the window". Bette thought about Tina's homemade bread and how much the smell and taste of it. Whenever she was having a bad day - the bread would appear. They stepped into the little store and the rich smell of bread filled the air. From the back of storeroom Tina could here the belles on the door ring. Sammy and Rachel can handle it for a few minutes I need to finish this inventory so I can do an order on Monday. Tina thought to herself. "Welcome" said Sammy "Oh thank you sweetheart" Kit replied. Bette was deep in thought like having the strangest dejavu. It smelled like heaven and everything looked really familiar without Bette knowing why. But one thing she did know is that she had to get some of the bread she smelled. At the bakery counter everything in case looked wonderful and inviting. And then she saw them.. with a little sign "B Bars" How could that be? They were exactly what Tina use to make for her; brownies with raspberry filling and dark chocolate chunks and powdered sugar on top.
