Bette sat on Tina's bed, the blonde buried somewhere underneath the sheets, having hidden there when her phone had started to ring. About twenty unanswered calls and messages from her friends later, Tina continued to pretend the phone never rang.
"T?"
Groans answered her.
"I have to call Kit."
More groans.
Bette smiled to herself, amused that Tina, formerly Miss Morning Sunshine, could be the exact opposite sometimes. Usually after marathon makeup sex. "I'll be quick." She promised, before slipping off the bed and going to the living room, clad in one of Tina's old NYU shirts and shorts. She may have only studied there for a year, but she'd collected quite a variety of merchandise.
Bette found her purse on Tina's couch, and dug out her cellphone, which she had turned off when she'd gotten to Tina's door the day before.
Turning it on, it began to beep incessantly, as it told her that she had over a lot of unread text messages, voice mail, missed calls, and whatever else. Bette sighed, and waited for the phone to settle down before she touched anything.
Instead, it rang.
"Hello?"
"Where the fuck are you?" Was Alice's voluble greeting.
Bette winced. Clearly, she had been AWOL. "I'm in New York."
"Thanks for the update. Do you have any idea how many times I've been trying to call you?"
"Do you know where Tina is?" Bette asked pointedly. The trick to Alice was to make her feel guilty.
"Well, no," Alice admitted.
"So why were you calling?"
"We were just concerned."
"I'm fine." Bette replied. She was successfully masking her bliss from her nosy reporter friend.
"Well... okay." Alice sighed. "So when are you coming back?"
"What makes you think I'm coming back?"
"Well, you don't exactly have anything keeping you in New York, do you?" Alice asked.
"Tina's---"
"If she doesn't want to be found..." Alice let her voice drift off, unsure how to break the news to Bette.
Tina leaned down from behind Bette, and whispered in the brunette's other ear. "Alice?"
Bette turned to her, and nodded. She moved her hand to mimic Alice's endless chatter.
"Breakfast?" Tina asked.
Bette nodded, then put her finger to her lips in a 'quiet' gesture.
Tina grinned, and kissed her.
